ENTREPRENEURSHIP SYLLABUS 2012

This subject will provide participants with very practical business tools for starting a new business or for use for an existing business. This course consist of 14 sessions, which will be devided into 3 phases. The first phase will discuss on creating entrepreneurial mindset in creative industry for artists. Emphesis will be placed on the key aspects of entrepreneurship including: understanding of the creative industry, the attributes of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship and innovation. The second phase will discuss developing the business plan. Emphesis will be placed on the internal and external analysis, business model and business strategy. The last phase will discuss on managing business growth which will emphesis on the importance of growth, strategy for diversification, growth horizon and the growth stage.
The course will be interactive in nature with lectures, group activities, start up problem solving scenarios, videos, and mini presentation. Guess speakers will visit the class to provide expert knowledge and perspective on entrepreneurship in selected sessions.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
- To gain insight into the field of creative industry by understanding the characteristics of creative industry, creative industry in many foreign countries, and the opportunity for developing creative industry in Indonesia.
- To gain insight into the field of entrepreneurship by understanding the characteristics and mindset of entrepreneurs and to develop an ability to identify and evaluate opportunities within the market place, both for a new venture creation and within existing organizations.
- To further develop the skill of thinking entrepreneurially in all manner of business life and having the business tools and knowledge to take actions and make things happen.
- To understand the important of Business Plan and how to write good Business Plan
- To gain insight into the internal and external perspective of the business and how to use these perspectives to analyze the business opportunity.
- To understand the concept of business model as the logical narative on how the business create profit.
- To understand the concept of business growth and the strategy to manage the business growth.

The PowerPoint slides used by Lecturer in each class will be available on the Lecturer’s blogspot prior to the class, BUT will be slightly incomplete. Meaning the missing content can be completed during class.

INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
A maximum 5 pages individual assignment describing creative industry and/or entrepreneurial interest. The paper can also be in form of executive summary of interview with successful entrepreneurship. Due at the beginning class of session 4th. Late submissions will be penalized 10 % of the total marks per day.

IDEA GENERATION PROPOSAL
A maximum 3 pages proposal describing your business idea that should become the basis for the Business Proposal assignment. Due at the beginning class of session 7th. Late submissions will be penalized 10 % of the total marks per day. The proposal should clearly communicate and illustrate what the basic business idea is.
- The Business: A Clearly articulated overview of what your business idea is.
- The Product/Service: What is the product/service you are selling? What value does the product/service provide the customers?
- The Customer: Who will be your customer target? What customer need(s) does it fulfil?
- The Resources: What unique resources do you have which create competitive advantage among rivals?
- Financial Aspect: Where does your revenue come from? How does your business create profit?

BUSINESS PLAN
This is the capstone assignment for this course where you as a team of up to 4 people will write a Business Plan, preferably from the Idea Generation Proposal Assignment. This is a basic blueprint for how to turn idea into a potential business opportunity. The Business Plan is a maximum 25 pages document that summarize the major aspects of your business venture. Due at the beginning class of session 12th. Late submissions will be penalized 10 % of the total marks per day.
The outline on your Business Plan is:
- Executive Summary which clearly articulated an overview of the business strategy.
- External Analysis: Briefly discuss the general environment which influence the business
- Industrial Analysis: Briefly discuss the industry definition, industry life cycle and critical success factors of the industry.
- Competitive Analysis: Briefly discuss five forces which influence the industry; ie. Internal rivalry, threat from the new entrance and product substitute, bargaining power of suppliers and buyers.
- Internal Analysis: Briefly discuss the internal resource using resource based view approach.
- Business Model: Briefly discuss the model of the business which clearly describe logical narrative how the business create profit.
- Business Strategy: Briefly discuss the grand and generic strategy of the business.
- Business Growth: Briefly discuss how to manage the growth of the business in the future.



BUSINESS PLAN PRESENTATION
Teams will have maximum 15 minutes presentation to panel of entrepreneurs on their Business Plan followed by a question/answer session. Participants should develop their presentation as if the audiences were a group of investors interested in investing their business concept.
